PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - Texas Tech was selected by Ryder Cup member Chad Campbell to receive $25,000 to be put towards the GOLF: For Business and Life program, as announced by PGA of America. Each member of the 2006 United States Ryder Cup squad selected universities to distribute $100,000 towards.
The program, established in 1999, extends across 59 schools across America and benefits college juniors, seniors and graduate students with instruction by Professional Golf Association Professionals. GOLF: For Business and Life educates the student-athlete on using golf as a tool for the professional world, regardless of their career path. For the past seven years, PGA America has distributed over $5.8 million to universities on behalf of the U.S. Ryder Cup Team.
Campbell divided his donation among four colleges, UNLV, Odessa, Midland Junior College and Texas Tech. As a student-athlete he attended UNLV and Midland, while his wife, Amy, went to Odessa and Tech.
Campbell and his U.S. teammates kick off the 36th Ryder Cup on Friday, Sept. 22, 2006, at The K Club in Straffan, Country Kildare, Ireland.
