Volleyball Secures Third-Straight Win

TAMPA, Fla. - Texas Tech started the USF Smoothie King Invitational in smooth fashion as they jumped out in front of Wright State to win 3-1. The victory against the Raiders from Dayton, Ohio, marks the third straight for a team that moves to 5-2 on the season. Tech is coming off of a tournament title at the UT-Pan American Volleyball Invitational that took place last week in Edinburg, Texas.
Despite splitting the first two games, Texas Tech came out for the third game fighting. The Red Raiders found contributors across the floor to win with games of 30-23, 28-30, 30-19, 30-23. Wright State now falls to 1-7 for the 2006 campaign.
The Red Raider squad had the clear advantage in hitting percentage, out-matching Wright State .230 to .144. Four Tech members led in different categories, with Philister Sang leading the team in kills with a season-high 25. Adding in defensive stats of 16 digs, Sang notched her second double-double of the young season. Also earning a second double-double was Emily Ziegler, who contributed 36 assists and 11 digs.
Amy Charlebois continued to strengthen her game as she tallied 14 kills with a team season-high 10 blocks (1 solo, 9 assisted). Freshman Jenn Harrell led the team in digs for the fourth-straight match as she set a new career-mark of 19. Also putting up double-digit numbers was Kiley Lyons with 17 digs and Holly Hicks with 16 assists.
Texas Tech will finish their stint in Tampa, Fla., on Saturday with two matches. The Red Raiders will first match-up against Jacksonville at 9 a.m. CT, and will meet the host-school USF in the final match of the tourney at 5:00 p.m. CT.
