LUBBOCK, Texas - The Pat Bradley Women's Golf Championship concluded Tuesday afternoon in Fort Myers, Fla. and Texas Tech finished in fourth place at 46-over 910, just two strokes out of second place. The Lady Raiders placed two in the top 10 as Tracy Stanford (three-over 219) and Ulrika Van Nierkerk (six-over 222) finished in fourth and seventh place, respectively.
South Florida took home the team title at 32-over 896, while host Florida International and Middle Tennessee State tied for second at 44-over 908. Tech was followed by Florida Atlantic, Southern Illinois, Bradley, Wofford, Daytona Beach Community College and Florida Gulf Coast.
Tech entered Tuesday's final round in second place after firing rounds of 297 and 303 on a windy Monday to put them at 600, just one-stroke back. The Lady Raiders fought tough winds again Tuesday to finish the final 18 holes at 22-over 310 to give them a 910 for the event.
"Overall, we adjusted well to the windy conditions," Tech coach Stacey Totman said. "We had some people really step up and do well. There are a lot of positive things we can take away from this tournament."
Van Niekerk fired rounds of 72, 74 and 76 to put her at six-over 222 and finish in seventh place. Rosalyn Kim also had a good showing at 10-over 226 to finish in 13th place. Gloriana Soto also finished in the top 20 with an 11-over 227 to put her right behind Kim in 14th. Megan Dowdy finished with a 235, while Alex Gibson rounded off the Lady Raiders' team scoring at 251.
Stanford led three Tech golfers that turned in strong showings as individuals. The Midland, Texas, native fired three rounds of 73 to give her the lowest 54-hole score of her career at 219, in addition to the best finish of her career at fourth place. Freshmen Jackie Smith and Stephanie Smith each finished 18-over 234s to tie for 24th.
The Lady Raiders will return to the links next week when they finish off their fall season at the San Francisco Invitational on Nov. 5-6.
