LUBBOCK, Texas - Senior Night for Tech Spikers
Four Texas Tech volleyball players will play their final home matches as Red Raiders Wednesday night when Tech welcomes Kansas to the United Spirit Arena for a 7 p.m. battle. Saturday night, the Red Raiders finish off their season when they travel to Lincoln, Neb. to face the reigning national-champion Nebraska Cornhuskers.
USA Farewell
Seniors Amy Gandy, Lindsey Louis, Alicia Ostmeyer and Emily Ziegler will all play their final matches in the United Spirit Arena Wednesday.

Texas Tech got off to strong starts early in each game, but it was not enough to upset one of the nation's hottest teams, No. 3 Texas, in a 3-0 (30-14, 30-15 and 30-24) loss in the Gregory Gym. Amy Gandy and Michelle Flores led a very balanced Tech effort with five kills apiece. Alicia Ostmeyer and Brandi Hood added four kills each, while Gandy and Hood led the way defensively with three blocks apiece.
Last Jayhawk Battle
Hitting problems early and late cost Texas Tech volleyball in a 3-0 (27-30, 24-30 and 25-30) defeat at the hands of the Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence, Kan. The Red Raiders' offense struggled early and late against the Jayhawks and it proved to be the difference.
Three Tech players knocked down double-digit kills on the afternoon, led by 11 from senior Alicia Ostmeyer. Amy Gandy picked up her seventh double-double of the season with 10 kills and 13 digs, while Michelle Flores had 10 kills to mark the 11th match this season the junior has knocked down at double-digit kills. Hutchinson, Kan., native Brandi Hood led the Red Raider defense with seven blocks, while sophomore Jenn Harrell finished with 14 digs.
Notching 1,000
Gandy became just the eighth player in Red Raider volleyball history to record 1,000 career kills when she knocked down a kill at the beginning of the second game against Oklahoma on Nov. 7.
Tech vs. Kansas
Wednesday will be 25th meeting between the squads. Tech has won 15 of them, including three of the last five.
Scouting the Jayhawks
Ray Bechard is in his 10th season at the reigns of the Jayhawks. He carries a 160-144 record at the school coming into this week.
KU brings a 12-17, 5-14 record into the match. It has dropped its last two matches and three of its last four, but boasts a victory over Oklahoma back on Nov. 3. The Jayhawks are hitting .180 on the year, while opponents are hitting 2.36. KU is led by one of the Big 12's most versatile players, senior outside hitter/setter Emily Brown. She is averaging 2.41 kpg, 6.55 apg and 2.29 dpg and has recorded seven triple-doubles on the season. Jenna Kaiser leads the squad with 2.82 kpg, while Melissa Manda paces the team with 3.98 dpg.
Red Raiders vs. Nebraska
Tech will meet the Huskers for the 29th time Saturday night. The Red Raiders have won just one match in the series, a 3-2 decision back in 1996.
Husker Glance
Nebraska is ranked No. 2 nationally and carries a 25-1 record on the season. Its only loss came at the hands of No. 3 Texas. John Cook is in his eighth season at the helm of the Huskers. He carries a record of 245-16 at Nebraska coming into this week. He boasts a career mark of 396-88 in 13-plus years as a head coach.
The Huskers are led by reigning AVCA/CSTV National Player of the Year Sarah Pavan. Pavan, a senior, leads the Big 12 with 4.95 kpg. Tracy Stalls leads the conference in hitting with a .454 clip. Christina Houghtelling, the 2005 National Player of the Year, paces the team with 4.01 dpg, while libero Rachel Schwartz is averaging 3.90 dpg.
