Fall Season Concludes with Second-Place Finish

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech's fall season came to a conclusion Tuesday in San Francisco, Calif. as the Lady Raiders golf team finished second at the USF/Richmond Country Club Invitational. Tech finished with a 56-over 908, just one stroke out of first place.
UC Davis claimed the team crown at 55-over 907. UNLV finished three-strokes behind the Lady Raiders in third at 59-over 911, while Oregon (918) and host University of San Francisco (922) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. UC Irvine, Boise State, Campbell and Toledo rounded off the team standings.
Tech began Tuesday's final round with a one-stroke lead over UC Davis and UNLV after firing a 38-over 606. The Lady Raiders finished the last 18 holes with the second-best round of the day Tuesday at 18-over 302. However, it was UC Davis that carded the best score of the day to squeak by for the win. Junior Gloriana Soto fired a two-over 73 lead Tech on the day.
The Lady Raiders' solid all-around performance was capped off by three golfers placing in the top 15. Ulrika Van Niekerk was Tech's top finisher in sixth place with a 12-over 225. Junior Megan Dowdy finished just behind at 13-over 226 to share eighth-place honors, while Soto carded a 16-over 229 to tie for 15th. Rosalyn Kim fired a 232 and Tracy Stanford recorded a 243 to wrap up the team scoring. Stephanie Smith, 238, and Jackie Smith, 241, competed as invidividuals.
With Tuesday's second-place finish, Tech concluded the fall with three top-five finishes, the first time since 2004-05 that the Lady Raiders have accomplished such a task. Tech will still compete in five more events in addition to the Big 12 championships during the spring.
The Lady Raiders will return home and continue to prepare for its spring campaign which gets underway Feb. 24-26 at the Purdue/Puerto Rico Invitational in Puerto Rico.
