LUBBOCK, Texas - Red Raider tennis returns to action at the McLeod Tennis Center on Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 1:30 p.m. Last time out the Raiders defeated top-ranked Rice, boosting the team up nine spots to a No. 34 ranking.
The Red Raiders are led by senior captain Dimitrio Martinez who plays in the No. 2 singles spot, and No. 3 doubles with senior teammate Teddy DiBlasi. Martinez boasts a 5-0 singles record, and is third on Tech's career singles victories with 59. In doubles he and DiBlasi sit 4-1 in the No. 3 spot, losing only to top-ranked Washington.
The team has had a tremendous showing thus far as they pulled off a 4-3 upset over then ranked No. 30 Rice. Tech sophomore Michael Breler secured the win for his team in the No. 5 spot over Owl Jason Mok. Breler sits 6-1 in singles, suffering a loss to Denver earlier this season.
Tech holds a 5-2 record heading into Tuesday's match-up with ACU. The Red Raiders lead the series between the two 26-1, defeating the Wildcats 5-1 last season.
