LUBBOCK, Texas - Recovering from a 5-2 loss to No. 35 Brigham Young, the Texas Tech women's tennis team dominated the Air Force Falcons today at the McLeod Tennis Center. The team will be on the road next weekend in Oklahoma for three matches.
Tech's doubles came out strong as all three took wins over the Falcons. The No. 1 duo of Janet Durham and Samantha van der Drift improved to 7-1 as they defeated AFA's Abayan and Morgan 8-3. Senior Lakann Wagley and junior transfer Brenna Jackson captured the doubles point for their team over Walker and Wilson, 8-4.
Singles continued to favor the Red Raiders as all six positions tabbed in wins. Durham and van der Drift eased their way past the Falcons, but it was sophomore Anne Sophie Fankam who secured the match for her team. Fankam returned to the No. 4 spot after getting one of Tech's two singles wins against BYU, and went on to defeat Air Force's Karissa Walker 6-1, 6-0.
Tech freshmen Kerryn Potgieter and Maria Jose Andres also notched in wins to their singles record. Wagley wound up the day for the Raiders as she squeaked by AFA's Christine Abayan in the third super-tiebreaker set, 10-2.
The Lady Raiders hit the road next weekend as they play Big 12 opponents University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, as well as Oral Roberts. For more information and complete results visit www.texastech.com.
