Texas Tech Dominates Abilene Christian

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Red Raider men's tennis team hosted their first outdoors match of 2007, sweeping Abilene Christian 7-0. Tech prepares itself for March as they will play in two tournaments and open Big 12 play on the road.
Tech gained an early lead on the Wildcats by dominating in doubles. The duo of Bojan Szumanski and Christian Rojmar put Tech on the board winning their match 8-5. The No. 3 court showcased a new duo for Tech as senior Greg Jones paired with fellow senior Teddy DiBlasi. The two escaped by ACU 9-8, winning 7-5 in the tiebreaker.
Once again, the Red Raiders singles action overpowered the competition. Tech's four, five and six players all got it done right off the bat and secured the win for their team. Christian Rojmar defeated Ryan Hudson 6-2, 6-0, followed by Milos Kustudija beating Bryce Hicks 6-1, 6-2, and finally Michael Breler topping Luke Hawk 6-4, 6-0.
Tech's No. 1 player Bojan Szumanski was able to hold off Juan Nunez winning 6-2, 6-3. Currently ranked No. 41 nationally, Szumanski sits 2-3 in singles and 3-3 in doubles. Red Raider captain Dimitrio Martinez advanced his singles record to 6-0 winning today's match 6-4, 6-2. In the final match Sinisa Markovic pulled away with a win over Kevin Beedy, after squeaking by in the first set 7-6 in a 7-3 tiebreaker.
The men's tennis team will hit the road during the entire month of March as they play in two tournaments and two conference matches. First up the team travels to Corpus Christi, Texas, to participate in the HEB Invitational on Feb. 2-3. For more information and complete results, visit www.texastech.com.
