Women's Tennis Notches in Two More Wins

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Lady Raiders continued the hard-hitting action today defeating Prairie View A&M and University of Texas-El Paso at the Falls Country Club. The team hopes to continue the momentum heading into Sunday's match-up against No. 41 University of New Mexico.
The team continued to dominate in doubles, sweeping both the Lady Panthers and Lady Miners. Tech had a new No. 2 pair on the court, consisting of junior Janet Durham and sophomore Samantha van der Drift. This switch proved beneficial as the duo notched in two wins for the team.
The singles competition continued to improve as they tallied in eight wins during the two matches. No. 1 van der Drift and No. 3 Durham continued their undefeated streak, as newcomer Yaroslava Balakhonova made her collegiate debut with a win, 6-1, 6-0, against Prairie View.
The team has an overall record of 3-1, losing 4-3 to No. 39 Oregon in their season opener. Sunday's match-up is the 19th meeting between Tech and New Mexico, with the series tied at 9-9. The Lady Lobos are led by junior Ola Abou-Zekry from Cairo, Egypt, and who is currently ranked No. 62 nationally. Currently ranked No. 50, this will be the third top 50 team Tech will face since the beginning of their season last week.
