The Texas Tech Red Raiders (19-11, 8-7) travel to Ames, Iowa for their 7:00 PM tip-off against the Iowa State Cyclones (15-14, 6-9) on Saturday in their final conference game of the 2006-2007.
The game is televised on ESPN Plus with Dave Armstrong calling the play-by-play and Larry Farmer providing the game analysis. Coverage in Lubbock is provided by KMYL-TV (Channel 14). Area cable subscribers can watch the game on DISH Network (Channel 14) and Suddenlink (Channel 6).
Texas Tech and Iowa State are meeting for the fifteenth time since the series began on December 8, 1955. Overall, Iowa State leads the series 8-6. Texas Tech has a 4-2 margin when the teams have played in Lubbock while Iowa State has a 5-1 lead in Ames. Each team has won a neutral site game.
Last season, the Red Raiders won at home 76-73. Jarrius Jackson led all scorers with 23 points. Will Blalock led the Cyclones with 21 points. In the February 12, 2005 meeting in Ames, Iowa State downed the Red Raiders 81-68. Tech's Ronald Ross led all scorers with 27 points. Jared Homan led Iowa State in scoring with 23 points. The teams also met in the 2005 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship with Texas Tech winning, 64-56. ISU's Curtis Stinson led all scorers with 24 points. Jarrius Jackson scored 20 points for the Red Raiders.
The Red Raiders feature two players averaging double-figures for the 2006-2007 season. Jarrius Jackson's 20.1 points per game is second (tie) in the Big 12 Conference. Martin Zeno's 16.5 points per game ranks eighth (tie) in the conference.
Earlier this week, the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced the NABC Division 1 All-District teams, recognizing the nation's best men's collegiate basketball student-athletes. The all-district teams represent 150 student-athletes from 15 districts across the nation. In District 9, Texas Tech's Jarrius Jackson was selected to the All-District First Team and teammate Martin Zeno was selected to the All-District Second Team.
The Big 12 Conference has named 22 student-athletes to the 2007 Academic All-Big 12 Men's Basketball Team. Senior Red Raider Jon Plefka was named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team. The New Britain, Connecticut native is majoring in Human Development & Family Studies. Sophomore Damir Suljagic from Tucson, Arizona was selected to the Academic All-Big 12 Second Team. Damir is majoring in Psychology and General Business.
For each Red Raider game this season, Steve Dale will call the courtside action along with Ted Chidester as analyst on the Texas Tech Sports Network (KKAM 1340 AM and KQBR 99.5 FM).
The 2007 Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Championship will take place in a new venue and state, this season as Oklahoma City hosts the twelve teams from March 8-11.
