Lady Raiders Defeat Oral Roberts 6-1

STILLWATER, Okla. - After losing two heartbreakers on the road to Oklahoma and No. 43 Oklahoma State, the Lady Raider tennis team bounced back with a 6-1 win over Oral Roberts. The team will have a couple weeks off to recuperate before hosting four consecutive Big 12 matches in Lubbock.
Head Coach Cari Groce mixed it up again in doubles as she featured new duos in all three doubles spots. With 8-2 victories across the board for Tech, senior Lakann Wagley and freshman Kerryn Potgieter paired in the No. 1 spot and defeated ORU's Arkel and Pippin. Next juniors Janet Durham and Brenna Jackson took down the Golden Eagles Rush and McKinney, followed by Samantha van der Drift and Maria Jose Andres topping Souza and Skinstad.
With the early 1-0 advantage, Tech's No. 1 van der Drift notched in her 10th singles win by defeating Emily Arkell, 6-1, 6-3. At No. 3 Durham beat Taylor Pippin, 6-0, 6-1, followed by captain Wagley over Paige McKinney 6-4, 6-4.
On the No. 5 and 6 courts, both Potgieter and Andres won their matches in two quick sets. Tech's only loss of the day came in the No. 4 spot as Anne Sophie Fankam lost a third set super-tiebreaker to ORU's Hayden Rush.
The Lady Raiders will take a couple weeks off after wrapping up their first 13 matches of the season. The team is set to host four straight Big 12 matches in Lubbock, starting on March 25 with Nebraska. For more information and complete results, visit www.texastech.com.
