No. 12 Longhorns Squeeze by Red Raiders 4-3

AUSTIN, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team dropped their second Big 12 match today losing to the Texas Longhorns, 4-3. The Red Raiders fall to 10-7, 1-2, as they return home to host Lamar and New Mexico State starting Fri., April 6.
Texas came out swinging early as they swept all three doubles victories. The No. 42 ranked duo of Dimitar Kutrovsky and Josh Zavala took down Tech's No. 34 pair of Christian Rojmar and Bojan Szumanski 8-2. The clinching match came surprisingly on the No. 3 court as seniors Teddy DiBlasi and Dimitrio Martinez fell 8-5 to Longhorns Deussner and Diaz Barriga.
Already down 1-0, the Red Raiders had their work cut out for them heading into a series of stiff singles matches. No. 1 Szumanski was the first to put Tech on the board winning 6-2, 3-0 after Miguel Reyes Varela retired in the second set. The Longhorns retaliated winning the next two points in the No. 4 and 5 spots, giving them the early 3-1 lead.
Milos Kustudija was the next Red Raider to secure a victory, defeating Rook Schellenberg 6-2, 6-1. On the No. 2 court, Tech's Martinez couldn't stall UT's Dimitar Kutrovsky losing 6-4, 6-4, and boosting the Longhorns to their clinching victory. Sophomore Sinisa Markovic rounded out the day notching in his third conference win over No. 58 Milan Mihailovic.
"There were some really good performances today," said head Coach Tim Siegel. "This weekend I definitely feel we had our chances to win both matches, and it was disappointing that we didn't get a win. However, it has really helped prepare us for our next stretch of matches. Now we just have to keep working as we're heading towards the end of Big 12."
