MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Texas Tech women's tennis team dropped their fifth conference match to Kansas State on Saturday, 5-2, playing indoors at the Ahearn Field House. Tech falls to 9-8, 2-5, as the Wildcats improve to 4-11, 2-3 in Big 12.
After an 8-1 loss at No. 3, doubles pair Lakann Wagley and Brenna Jackson couldn't hold off K-State's Olga Klimova and Katka Kudlackova, losing 8-6. The win by Klimova and Kudlackova advanced their doubles record to 5-1 in Big 12. The No. 1 duo of Samantha van der Drift and Janet Durham were the only ones able to pull out a win over KSU's Viviana Yrureta and Fernanda Da Valle, coming out ahead 7-3 in the tiebreaker.
Van der Drift was the first to strike for her team, winning 6-1, 6-2 over Viviana Yrureta and putting Tech on the board to tie up the score at one all. K-State put an end to any chances of a comeback by the Raiders, winning the next three singles points in the No. 2, 3, and 4 spots. Freshman Maria Jose Andres sunk in Tech's second point after defeating Olga Klimova 6-4 in the first set, and Klimova retiring 4-3 in the second.
The Lady Raiders next travel to play two top 20 ranked Big 12 opponents, No. 18 Texas A&M on Sat., April 14, and No. 20 Baylor on Sun., April 15. For more information and complete results, visit www.texastech.com.
