LUBBOCK, Texas - Ending the regular season in a three-way tie for fourth, the Texas Tech men's tennis team had three singles players and one doubles duo named to the 2007 All-Big 12 Team. Red Raiders Sinisa Markovic, Dimitrio Martinez and Bojan Szumanski all received first-team honors, while the No. 33 ranked team of Christian Rojmar and Szumanski were named first-team All-Big 12 doubles.
Sophomore Markovic led the way in the No. 3 singles position in the Big 12, going undefeated in regular season play with a 6-0 record. He currently is 15-3 in dual matches this season, 25-8 overall, losing his first match after 12 straight wins to Texas' Milan Mihailovic in the first round of the Big 12 tournament.
Szumanski began the spring season ranked 12th nationally, coming off a successful fall campaign with a 12-3 record winning both the Midland Racquet Club and ITA Regional Tournaments. So far this season he is 8-9 at the No. 1 position for Tech, 20-12 overall, and is ranked No. 37 in singles.
Having one of the most memorable senior campaigns is Red Raider team captain Martinez. Martinez found himself ranked for the first time this season on April 17 after defeating Baylor's No. 19 player Michal Kokta. He moved up 25 spots a week later after taking down Oklahoma State's No. 30 Ivan Puchkarov in a second set tiebreaker. Currently ranked No. 87, Martinez sits 13-6 in duals, 19-11 overall, and is tied with teammate Szumanski at number one in Tech's record book for career singles victories with 67.
The doubles pair of Rojmar and Szumanski are the first duo to be honored by the Big 12 since 2002, when former players Richard Crabtree and Ben Gudzelak were named to the first-team. Playing in the No. 1 doubles position for the Raiders, Rojmar and Szumanski sit 9-6 overall and ended 3-3 in Big 12.
