OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Big 12 Conference and the league's 10 head coaches announced the 2007 All-Big 12 Baseball team earlier today and among that group are four Red Raiders.
Sophomore right fielder Roger Kieschnick led the Texas Tech contingent as he was named to the second team. He finished the 2007 season with a .302 batting average and was the only Red Raider to start and play in all 55 games of the season. His power numbers got a major boost this season as he ended the year with 13 home runs, 25 doubles and five triples for a total of 43 extra base hits.
Senior shortstop Kyle Martin, junior catcher Matt Smith and sophomore first baseman James Leverton were all named to the honorable mention squad. Martin and Smith combined for 24 of Tech's combined 58 team home runs while Leverton was widely considered as one of the best defensive first baseman in the league.
Texas Tech ended its season this past weekend against Oklahoma and finished the year with a 28-27 overall record and an 8-18 mark in Big 12 play.
