LUBBOCK, Texas - For the first time in Texas Tech men's tennis history, junior Bojan Szumanski advanced to the second round of the NCAA Individual Tennis Championships. He next faces LSU's Ken Skupski at 9 a.m. EDT today, May 24, at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
No. 37 Szumanski was able to top Pennsylvania's No. 96-ranked Jason Pinsky in three close sets. The Poland native dropped the first set 6-1, but was able to recover with a 6-3 second set victory. In the third, Szumanski maintained momentum despite recent injuries, and walked away with the 6-2 win. He improves his record to 22-13 overall, 10-10 in dual competition this season.
In doubles, Szumanski will partner with sophomore Christian Rojmar playing Miami's duo of Coherv and Agerd today at 6 p.m. EDT. The No. 33 duo compiled a 9-8 record this spring, and received a draw into this year's NCAA Doubles Championships.
