WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Texas Tech put the finishing touches on preparations for the 2007 NCAA Men's Golf Championships on Tuesday, getting a final look at the par 70, 6,803-yard Gold Course at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va.
The Red Raiders tee off in their second-consecutive NCAA Championships at 7:47 a.m. Wednesday from the first tee and are grouped with Charlotte and Arizona in the first two rounds. The second round begins at 12:59 p.m. Thursday on the 10th hole.
Wednesday and Thursday's tee order is as follows: Matt Smith (7:47 a.m.), Will Griffin (7:57 a.m.), Garrett Merrell (8:06 a.m.), Santiago Rivas (8:16 a.m.) and Oscar Floren (8:25 a.m.).
FLOREN RANKED AMONG TOP 50 Texas Tech senior Oscar Floren is ranked 33rd nationally and leads the team with a 71.34 stroke average. He has been on a hot streak of sorts lately with top 10 finishes in each of his last four events, including a tie for sixth at the NCAA Central Regional two weeks ago, where he carded a three-round, five over par 221.
HOLES 16 & 17 AMONG WORLD'S TOP GOLF HOLES The 16th and 17th holes at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club's Gold Course are recognized by GOLF Magazine as two of the "Top 500 Golf Holes in the World." The 16th is a picturesque downhill par three with water framing the front of the green. The 17th is a straight-away par four with trees lining both sides of a tight fairway that leans hard from right to left.
