Van der Drift named to ITA All-Academic Team

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released their selection for the 2007 ITA All-Academic Team, including Texas Tech women's tennis player Samantha van der Drift. The Big 12 Conference was well represented with 27 female student-athletes making the list.
The award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above. To earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a student-athlete must have competed in one or more varsity matches, have and a G.P.A. of at least 3.5 for the current academic year, and has been enrolled in their present school for at least two semesters.
Van der Drift moved into the No. 1 position for the Lady Raiders as a sophomore, after filling the No. 4 and 5 positions her freshman year. She ended last season with a 15-7 dual record, 24-14 overall, and was also the only one on her team to be named All-Big 12 Singles and Academic All-Big 12 first team.
