Lady Raider Tennis Opens Fall Competition

LUBBOCK, Texas - Kicking off the 2007 fall tournament schedule, the Texas Tech women's tennis team travels to Denton, Texas, to participate in the North Texas Invitational. Play begins on Fri., Sept. 14, at the Waranch Tennis Pavilion.
Top returners for this year's squad include senior Janet Durham and junior Samantha van der Drift. Durham ended last season 21-16 overall, 7-7 in fall tournament play. Tech's top player van der Drift recently found a spot in the ITA/Fila preseason rankings at No. 115. She ended last season playing No. 1 for the Red Raiders going 24-14 overall, 9-7 in fall individual competition.
At last year's invite, former Lady Raider's Lakann Wagley and Brenna Jackson captured the singles titles in the green and white singles brackets, respectively. Tech's doubles also had an impressive showing, with all three pairs making it to the semi-finals.
