LUBBOCK, Texas - After getting off to a hot start the first day, the Lady Raiders golf team struggled Tuesday and concluded the Ron Moore Intercollegiate with a 57-over 921 to finish in twelfth place at the Highlands Ranch Golf Club in Highlands Ranch, Colo..
Tech came out hot in the early going, shooting an opening-round 304 to place itself in sixth place, just a few strokes off the leaders. Sophomore Rosalyn Kim shot a 72 to lead the Red Raiders through the first 18 holes.
Darkness caused from increment weather conditions, however, set in with just a few holes left and postponed the last part of the second round Monday night. Tech struggled coming out Tuesday morning and ended the second round with a 310. The Lady Raiders concluded the day with a 307 over the final 18 holes.
"We got off to a great start and had a good opening round," Tech coach Stacey Totman said. "We were right there when they called us in. We didn't get off to a very good start in the morning, though, and lost our momentum. This was a good learning experience for the girls."
Kim fired a nine-over 225 over the three rounds to lead Tech and finish in 22nd place. Megan Dowdy was close behind with a nine-over 228 to place her in 30th place. Junior Ulrika Van Niekerk and freshman Alex Gibson shot 234 and 235, respectively, while Gloriana Soto rounded off the Lady Raiders weith a 243. Auckland, New Zealand, native Robyn Scott competed individually and finished with a 245.
Tech will return to Lubbock to prepare for the Jeannine McHaney/Audrey Moorehead Invitational held at the Rawls Course on Oct. 8-9.
