LUBBOCK, TX - The Red Raiders take on the Texas Longhorns on Saturday at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas. The 7:00 PM (CT) game will be televised on ESPN Plus. Dan McLaughlin will call the play-by-play. Paul Splittorff will provide the game analysis.
Mark Finkner will call the courtside action along with Corky Oglesby as analyst on the Texas Tech Sports Network local stations KQBR-FM 99.5 and KKAM-AM 1340.
Westwood One Radio will also air the game nationally. Kevin Kugler will provide the play-by-play. Bill Frieder will provide the game analysis
The Red Raiders and the Longhorns are meeting for the 120th time since the series began on December 15, 1939. Overall, Texas holds a 67-52 margin in the series. Texas Tech leads the series 28-22 in Lubbock while Texas holds a 38-21 lead in Austin and a 7-3 edge on neutral courts. Last season, the Longhorns won in Lubbock (76-64) and in Austin (80-51).
The Red Raiders are 11-7 for the season and 2-2 in conference play. The Raiders lost at Oklahoma State (75-55) on January 12 and then defeated
# 9/10 Texas A&M on January 16, 68-53, for Coach Bob Knight's 900th career win. Oklahoma edged the Red Raiders on January 19 in Norman, 63-61. Texas Tech evened their conference record at 2-2 with their 92-84 home win against the Missouri Tigers last Wednesday.
Against Missouri, the Tigers led by three points at the half, 40-37. In the second half, Texas Tech outscored Missouri 55-44 to earn a 92-84 win at the United Spirit Arena. Missouri's Keon Lawrence paced the Tigers with 24 points. Stefhon Hannah scored 17 points and DeMarre Carroll added 14 points before fouling out with just over 2 minutes remaining in the game.
Five Red Raiders scored in double figures for the first time since January 28, 2006 against Oklahoma State. Against the Tigers, Martin Zeno led both teams in scoring with 33 points, a career best for the senior from Sulphur, Louisiana. John Roberson followed with 25 points. Alan Voskuil scored 13 points, Charlie Burgess had 11 points and Damir Suljagic added 10 points.
The #12/12 Longhorns are 15-3 for the season and 2-1 in conference play. They completed non-conference play with thirteen wins and two losses. Texas lost their opening conference game at Missouri, 97-84. Since then, they have wins over Colorado (69-67) and at Oklahoma State, 63-61. Texas has four players averaging double figures for the season in D. J. Augustin (20.8), A.J. Abrams (17.7), Damion James (14.0), and Connor Atchley (11.1).
Texas Tech returns to the United Spirit Arena on Saturday, February 2 for their 1 PM (CT) game against Oklahoma State. After the OSU game, the next home game for the Red Raiders will be on February 13 against Kansas State.
