Red Raiders Sweep Texas-Pan American

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Men's Tennis Team began 2008 in good fashion, sweeping Texas-Pan American 7-0 today at the McLeod Tennis Center.
Making their Red Raider debut was the team of senior Lenoir Ramos and freshman Jeremy Reed, notching in Tech's first doubles win over UTPA's Marcus Dornauf and Andrew Irving, 8-2. Moving in and clinching the doubles point for the Red Raiders was the No. 10 nationally-ranked duo of Christian Rojmar and Bojan Szumanski, taking down the Broncos' Ivan Avila and Nirvik Mohinta, 8-3.
Rolling right into singles play, Tech had a mixture of both new and familiar faces on the court. Senior transfer Ilya Babinciuc made himself right at home, putting away Mohinta in straight sets, 7-5, 6-0. Junior Milos Kustudija was back on court six, tabbing in Tech's third point over UTPA's Dornauf 6-4, 6-1. Playing at No. 4, Rojmar solidified the win for the Red Raiders by taking down Andrew Irving 6-3, 6-3.
Junior Sinisa Markovic filled the No. 1 spot for the first time in his career, defeating the Broncos' top player Ivan Avila 6-3, 6-1. Tech's new hard-hitting standout Ramos continued to bring the heat into singles, taking a 6-1, 6-4 win over Ashwin Vijayaragayan. Rounding out the day was Red Raider Michael Breler on court five, finishing off Brett Bernstein, 7-5, 6-3.
