Tech Finishes Tech Invitational with Seven NCAA Provisional Marks

Lubbock, Texas - The Red Raiders finished its second meet of the year with seven NCAA provisional marks. Texas Tech's senior Shawon Harris rewrote the 55M hurdles record books at the Texas Tech Invitational. Harris broke the Athletic Training Center's record, which he previously held, by running an NCAA provisional time of 7.22. The time also is a new school record that Daryl Burgess set in 2006.
Lyle Leong started the indoor season by winning the high jump by clearing a personal best and NCAA provisional mark of 7'-02.25". Finishing fourth was Justin Turner clearing 6'-08.25"
Anthony Flemons competing in his first meet won the long jump with a NCAA provisional mark and personal best jump of 25'-00". Two other Red Raiders finished in the top five as Waylon Randolph set a new personal best with a jump of 23'08" good for third, and Leong finished fourth with a distance of 23'-06.75".
The men had Brian Porter win the pole vault by clearing a personal best and NCAA provisional mark of 17'-06.50" and the 4X400M relay team of Bill Lawhorn, Gil Roberts, Shawon Harris and Lamont Adams ran a NCAA provisional time of 3:09.06 to win the event.
Gilbert Limo finished six tenths of a second from a NCAA provisional time in the mile as he ran a 4:04.60 to place second. Edwin Sang was on Limo's heels running a 4:05.13 to finish in third.
The Red Raiders had a good performance from freshman Bill Lawhorn as he finished third in the 400M with a time of 48.01.
For the second week in a row Kelly Schulz won the pole vault. She cleared a NCAA provisional mark and a personal best height of 13'-03.50". The Lady Raiders also had Chep Boit win the mile with a time of 5:01.63 and Asia Diaz finished third with a time of 5:07.60. Ozie Okolie threw a personal best in the weight throw winning it with a heave of 60'-07.25".
Julianne Kennedy and Kelsey Lloyd finished in the top two of the high jump. Both cleared 5'-06", but Kennedy won by finishing with less attempts.
Tech's men and women shot putters continued their impressive starts. The women were led by Patience Knight's personal best and NCAA provisional throw of 50'-08.75" placing second. D'Andra Carter finished third with a throw of 48'-08.25". The men finished in the top two again as Harrison Benjamin won the shot put with a throw of 54'-08" and Tyler Menges was second with a throw of 52'-08.25".
