Lady Raiders Three Strokes Off Lead at McHaney/Morehead

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech's women's golf team sits three strokes behind Baylor in second place at the McHaney/Morehead Invitational held at the Rawls Course, after shooting a 26-over 610.
The Lady Raiders, the winners of last year's McHaney/Morehead tournament, opened the tournament with a first round 303 and then carded a 307 for round two. Baylor (302, 305) leads after shooting 23-over 607. Arkansas - Little Rock is in third place, one stroke by the Lady Raiders with a 27-over 611.
Big 12 opponents Colorado (614), Nebraska (615) and Missouri (625) along with Middle Tennessee State (625) all are within striking distance. Kansas (629), Redland Community College (632), Texas - San Antonio (638), North Texas (641), Sam Houston State (649) and Kansas State (649) round out the team scores.
Tech was led by senior Ulrika Van Niekerk who carded an opening round even par 73 and followed it with a one-over 74. She sits fourth overall and just eight strokes off the lead.
Two of her teammates are also in the top ten individually. Senior Megan Dowdy (78, 74) and sophomore Alex Gibson (75, 77) are both tied for ninth place after shooting 6-over 152 for the day. Sophomore Jackie Smith (75, 77) shot 12-over and is tied for 27th and junior Rosalyn Kim (77, 83) sits in a tie for 37th carding a 14-over 160.
Senior Gloriana Soto (78, 73) playing as an individual shot a 5-over 151 and is in eighth place overall. Senior Tracy Stanford (80, 80) sits in a tie for 37th after a 14-over 160. Sophomore Robyn Scott (82, 88) shot a 24-over and is 69th and freshman Ali Williams (91, 90) in her first collegiate competition is in a tie for 33rd after shooting a 35-over 181.
Sara Wikstrom of Arkansas - Little Rock (73, 68) is the leader after carding a 5-under 141 on the Par 73 course.
The final round of the McHaney/Morehead Invitational will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at the Rawls Course.
