Texas Tech Drops Contest at New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Texas Tech women's basketball team struggled as it only shot 28 percent from the field to suffer a 63-54 loss at New Mexico tonight.
Tech (5-4) hit just 16-of-57 shots from the field and was just 64.3 percent from the free throw line in its first game in the last 10 days.
The Lobos (9-1) started the game on a 9-0 run before the Lady Raiders scored their first basket at the 14:10 mark on jumper by Kierra Mallard. From there Tech, went on a 10-0 run to take the lead at 10-9 on a layup by Jordan Barncastle. The first half saw six lead changes with Tech's largest lead at 20-17 with 3:50 remaining. New Mexico took a two-point advantage at the half, 22-20.
Jordan Murphree hit a three-pointer to start the second half to give the Lady Raiders a 23-22 lead, which was their last of the game. The Lobos went up by as many as 18 points twice in the final period before securing the nine-point victory.
Maria Moore led Tech with 11 points.
New Mexico outrebounded Tech 48-38 and shot 34 percent from the field (17-50). Amy Beggin scored a game-high 27 points for the Lobos.
Tech returns home on Thurs., Dec. 18, to face Prairie View A&M at 7 p.m. at the United Spirit Arena.
