- Texas Tech falls to 0-1 on the season after dropping its season opener for the first time since 1998 when the Red Raiders fell at New Mexico (7-6). Texas Tech is now 36-23 on opening day and 13-19 when opening the season on the road.
- Louisiana-Lafayette leads the all-time series 4-0. It was previously announced that the Cajuns led the series 1-0 entering the tournament but the two teams actually met twice back in 1980 with ULL winning both games.
- Junior right-hander AJ Ramos (0-1) tied his career high with 10 strikeouts. He previously struckout 10 last season against Cal-State Northridge (March 2).
- Texas Tech made its first appearance in San Antonio in the Larry Hays era and the first since March 30, 1983 when Tech defeated Trinity University 8-2.
- The last time Texas Tech was one-hit was against Texas in the second game of a doubleheader on April 3, 2004 at Dan Law Field. The last time Tech was shutout was against Oklahoma State (10-0) in the series finale last season on May 13.
- The last time ULL threw a one-hit shoutout was Feb. 22, 1984 against Northwestern State.
