Huskers Top Lady Raiders on the Road

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Texas Tech women's tennis team struggled to find a break as they dropped their conference opener today to No. 58 Nebraska on the road. The Lady Raiders look to redeem themselves as they head east to meet the Cyclones at noon tomorrow.
The home court advantage proved too tough to overcome for Tech as the Huskers dominated early in doubles. After a quick match at No. 2, Nebraska moved in for the win on court one. The team of Janet Durham and Brenna Jackson fell to Nebraska's No. 1 pair of Jana Albers and Imke Reimers, 8-3. The Raiders did find a win on court three as the freshmen team of Kelsy Garland and Simone Templeton moved past Amber Chandronnait and Stephanie Evans, 8-5.
In singles Tech dropped five matches in straight sets. Sophomore Maria Jose Andres was the only Red Raider to find a win, rolling past the Huskers' Abby Buxton, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6. Nebraska's hard-hitter No. 91 Imke Reimers proved too much for freshman Garland, winning 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 1 position.
"We had a slow start in matches today as we came out a little flat in both doubles and singles," commented Assistant Coach Todd Petty. "Nebraska plays well and knows how to get wins, but we look forward to finding some redemption tomorrow against Iowa State."
