Rojmar Garners Big 12 Player of the Week

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech junior Christian Rojmar was honored today as the Big 12 Player of the Week after an impressive weekend at the 2008 Blue-Gray Classic, the first time to receive the award in his career. The Sweden-native boasts a solid resume already this season in both doubles and singles, leading the team at 14-2 in No. 5 singles and 8-3 in No. 1 doubles.
In back-to-back days Rojmar clinched the deciding match point over both No. 19 VCU and No. 28 Auburn in three-sets, advancing the Red Raiders to the finals of the prestigious Blue-Gray Tennis Classic. In the quarterfinals he defeated Auburn's Pawal Dilaj, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, followed by Bobo Delemark, 6-0, 3-6, 6-4, in the semi-finals, moving Texas Tech past No. 19 VCU and into the finals. Before losing to Tulsa's Albert Sottocorno, Rojmar tabbed in an eight-match winning streak.
Rojmar and teammate Bojan Szumanski are currently ranked No. 2 in doubles competition. During the fall the pair advanced to the semi-finals of the 2007 ITA All-American, automatically qualifying them for the ITA National Indoors. After splitting two matches at the classic, the duo sit 8-3 in duals this spring, 14-6 overall.
"Christian had a terrific weekend for us," commented Head Coach Tim Siegel. "He has had a great season so far as he leads our team in singles and is a part of our top doubles duo. I'm really proud of what he's done for the team already, and I look forward to seeing him continue to improve."
