- Texas Tech had an all freshman battery today and both are products of Lubbock Monterey High School. Starting catcher Jeremy Mayo is a redshirt freshman and a 2006 graduate of Monterey.
- Rice extended its current win streak to 12 games over the Red Raiders as Tech last defeated the Owls back on April 6, 1996. Texas Tech still leads the all-time series 56-53.
- Freshman RHP Chad Bettis earned a no-decision in his second outing of the season as he logged 6 2/3 strong innings allowing three earned runs (four total) on five hits, walked three batters and struckout three.
- Shortstop Chris Hall committed three errors in the game and it marked the first time a Tech player had three since Cameron Blair did so against Nebraska back on May 15, 2005.
