LUBBOCK, Texas - Senior Bojan Szumanski added yet another honor today to his already unbelievable resume as the conference named him the Big 12 Player of the Week. This is the second time he received this award in his career, with the first being in March 2005, the third honor for the men's tennis team this season.
The four-time letterwinner went out with a bang this weekend at the McLeod Tennis Center as he clinched both the doubles point and singles win to give the Raiders the 4-3 victory over No. 4 Texas. The upset was the biggest win in Tech history over a ranked opponent.
Szumanski has solidified his spot in Tech's record books as the all-time winningest player in both singles and doubles. After going 2-0 this weekend, he advanced his spring singles record to 13-6, 2-2 in the Big 12, and he and Christian Rojmar are still ranked No. 4 nationally with a 16-9 record, 2-2 in conference play. The Opole, Poland native holds a career singles record of 88-48, and 59-42 in doubles.
"I'm so happy for Bojan to play as well as he did this weekend, as it was a perfect way to cap off his career at Tech," said Head Coach Tim Siegel. "The match versus Texas was a tough match for him, and I'm proud for the way he has stepped up and helped lead this team this season, and he is well deserving of this honor."
