LUBBOCK, Texas - Magic was not on the side of Texas Tech golfer Megan Dowdy as she fell 4&3 in the first round of match play at the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Wednesday in Erin, Wis.
Dowdy had a chance after she fought back to make it all square after the ninth hole, but she was unable to overcome Emily Powers of Quincy, Ill., who won the 15th hole to go up four holes with three to play and take the win.
Things did not go Dowdy's way early Wednesday as she dropped the first three holes to Powers. She fought back strong to eventually make it all square after nine holes. She was unable to get the holes she needed at the end as her run with the top amateur golfers in the country came to an end at Erin Hills Golf Course.
Dowdy, one of Tech's top women's golfers, will be a senior in 2008-09. She posted four top-20 finishes while helping Tech one of its best years in program history this past year.
