GETTING STARTED
- Texas Tech won the opening coin toss and elected to receive. Tech is now 2-2 on the year in the opening toss.
- Tonight's game against UMASS marked the first-ever meeting between the Red Raiders and the Minutemen. The Minutemen are the third opponent this season that the Red Raiders had never faced previously (joining Eastern Washington and Nevada).
- Senior offensive lineman Jake Johnson picked up his first start of the season at left guard in replacement of Louis Vasquez. The start marked the sixth of his career and his first since the Northwestern State game last season.
- The AT&T Cotton Bowl (Jan. 1, 2009) was the lone bowl representative in attendance tonight. Fin Ewing was the representative from the Cotton Bowl.

THIS SEAT'S TAKEN
Tonight's attendance of 53,190 marks the second-straight sellout for Texas Tech as 53,383 witnessed last week's game against SMU. The back-to-back sellouts are the first for the program since the 2001 season, when the Red Raiders sold out in consecutive games against Texas A&M (Nov. 3) and Oklahoma (Nov. 17).
ANOTHER BIG NIGHT FOR WOODS
Senior running back Shannon Woods had another big offensive night for the Red Raiders as he finished the game with 108 rushing yards, 53 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns. His 3 touchdowns moved him into sixth place on the career touchdowns list at Texas Tech and matched his career high for TD's in a game (has had three on two other occasions).
- Put the Red Raiders on the board first with a two-yard touchdown run with 11:20 remaining in the first quarter. The rushing TD was his fifth of the season and the 26th of his career.
- Scored his second touchdown of the game on a 38-yard rush with 12:48 remaining in the first half.
- Added his third touchdown of the game with 3:20 remaining in the third quarter when he scored on an 18-yard scamper.
- Had the first 100-yard rushing game by a Red Raider since the 2006 season when he rushed for 109 yards against Minnesota in the 2006 Insight Bowl.
- Moved into 10th place on the Texas Tech career scoring leaders list after rushing for three touchdowns tonight. He has 198 career points on 33 touchdowns.
NOTING THE RED RAIDERS
- Freshman receiver Tramain Swindall hauled in his first career touchdown with 7:47 remaining in the first quarter that gave the Red Raiders a 13-0 lead. The catch went for 17-yards.
- The last time a fumble was returned for a touchdown against Texas Tech was at home against NC State in 2002 when Shawn Price returned one for 35-yards and the score.
- Senior receiver Eric Morris reeled in his first touchdown catch of the 2008 season with 39 seconds remaining in the first quarter to give the Red Raiders a 20-7 lead. The touchdown reception was the 11th of his career.
- Sophomore receiver Michael Crabtree gave the Red Raiders a 34-7 lead with 5:12 remaining in the first quarter when he caught a two-yard pass from Graham Harrell. The touchdown was his sixth of the season and gave him 28 in his two-year career.
- Morris picked up his second multiple-TD game of the season when he caught a four-yard pass from Harrell with 58 seconds remaining in the first half.
- Texas Tech's 42 first half points was the most by a Red Raider offense since the 2006 season when Tech took a 42-0 lead at the half against Southeastern Louisiana and went on to win 62-0.
- Free safety Darcel McBath got the Red Raiders rolling in the second half when he returned a 45-yard interception for a touchdown to give Tech a commanding 48-7 lead with 13:36 remaining in the third quarter. The last Red Raider to return an INT for a touchdown was Antonio Huffman at Oklahoma in 2006.
- Senior quarterback Graham Harrell is one of seven players in NCAA history to complete more than 100 touchdown passes in a career after eclipsing the mark with four scoring strikes against Massachusetts. He has 101 in his career. He passed Matt Leinert (99 at USC, 2002-05) and Chad Pennington (100 at Marshall, 1997-99) and is in sixth place all-time. He trails Danny Wuerffel (114 at Florida, 1993-95) in fifth place.
- Graham Harrell needs 205 career passing yards to eclipse Kliff Kingsbury's school record of 12,429 yards, set from 1999-02. Harrell has 12,225 career passing yards.
