Van Niekerk Paces Lady Raiders at Heather Farr/CU Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior Ulrika Van Niekerk shot a second round 6-under 66 to tie the best 18-hole total in Tech women's golf history to sit in fifth place and propel the Lady Raiders team to a 6-over and fourth place after the first day of the Heather Farr/CU Invitational.
The Lady Raiders shot a 299 for the first round of the tournament with senior Megan Dowdy shooting the low round of 73. Tech caught fire in the second round behind van Niekerk's round of 66 to shoot a team total of 283. The 283 is tied for the lowest team total of the tournament.
Senior van Niekerk is the top Lady Raider as she sits in a tie for fifth place with a 4-under (74, 66). Sophomore Alex Gibson is tied for 19th after she posted a 2-over (74, 72). Dowdy shot a 3-over (73, 74) to be tied for 23rd and right behind Gibson. Other Lady Raiders are junior Rosalyn Kim who shot a 5-over (78, 71) and sophomore Jackie Smith shot a 12-over (79, 71). Sophomore Robyn Scott, playing as an individual, shot round of 83 and 79.
Tech is sitting behind Notre Dame (-5), Colorado (+1) and CSU-Long Beach (+5).
The Lady Raiders will conclude the tournament tomorrow with an 8:30 a.m. local time tee-off.
