Lubbock, Texas - After extending their season winning streak to seven games, the Red Raiders host No. 10/12 Washington on Thursday at 6 PM in the Big 12 / Pac-10 Hardwood Series.
Texas Tech downed the Samford Bulldogs on Saturday, 74-53. The Red Raiders held a 36-28 lead at the half and then pulled away from the Bulldogs midway through the second half for the win.
John Roberson led the team in scoring against Samford with 16 points. He also had nine assists and three steals. David Tairu came off the bench to score 15 points. Nick Okorie dropped in 14 points and Mike Singletary added 11 points and eight rebounds.
Texas Tech's seven-game win streak is the best start the Red Raiders have had since becoming members of the Big 12 Conference in the 1996-1997 season. The 1995-1996 squad opened with seven wins in their final season in the Southwest Conference.
Texas Tech and Washington will be meeting for the eighth time since the series began on December 30, 1967. Overall, the Huskies hold a 5-2 margin. The teams last met on December 29, 1990.
Washington, ranked 10th in the latest USA Today/ESPN poll and 12th in the current AP poll, opened their season hosting the Athletes in Action Basketball Classic. The Huskies defeated Wright State (74-69), Belmont (96-78), and Portland State (111-55) in the event. On November 20, Washington stopped San Jose State, 80-70. In their last game, the Huskies closed out Montana's upset bid, 63-59.
After five games, the Huskies have averaged 84.8 points per game. Quincy Pondexter and Isaiah Thomas are each averaging 20.6 points per game.
Thursday's game will be televised on ESPN2. Carter Blackburn will call the play-by-play and Stephen Bardo will provide the game analysis.
On the radio, Mark Finkner will call the courtside action along with analyst Corky Oglesby on the Texas Tech Sports Network flagship station Double T 104.3. The game will also be featured on Sirius channel 121 and XM channel 194.
On December 8, Texas Tech plays at TCU. After the break for final exams, the Raiders will be back in action at Wichita State on December 19 and at home against Stanford on December 22.
