Texas Tech To Participate In San Diego Classic

SAN DIEGO - Fresh off two victories over South Dakota State on Thursday, Texas Tech softball begins play in the San Diego Classic II on Friday as it faces New Mexico State and Cal State Northridge. On Saturday, Tech faces Connecticut and rounds out the tournament against Quinnipiac and Northern Colorado on Sunday. The tournament is split between two fields and hosted by the University of San Diego and San Diego State.
Lee Lets Loose
Catcher Jennifer Lee has really come on over the past six games registering a hit in five contests, four straight. She has raised her batting average by .83 points since Las Vegas and is hitting .273 with nine hits, five RBI, with a double and triple.
Gentsch Goes Green
Freshman catcher Holley Gentsch found the gaps and put the ball in the grass against South Dakota State going 5-8 with 6 RBIs with a double and a triple. On the season, Gentsch is batting .263 with 20 hits and a team leading 18 RBI.
Leah Slaps Out The Hits
Texas Tech slapper Leah Legler went 3-3 in game two against South Dakota State with a triple, three runs scored, and four RBIs. With her triple, Legler moves into fourth on the Texas Tech All-Time Top 10 in triples with five, tying Jennifer Bowers and Kim Martinez.
Jacobs Gets First Shutout Of 2009
Pitcher Ashly Jacobs scored her first shutout of the 2009 season against South Dakota State in game one, throwing six scoreless innings giving up only two hits while striking out five and allowing only one walk.
Peterson Scores First Career RBIs
Freshman Skyler Peterson knocked in her first career RBIs against South Dakota State as she singled to right field.
Series Records
Tech holds a 19-8 all time advantage over New Mexico State.
Cal State Northridge owns the series over the Red Raiders, 2-0.
Texas Tech has never faced Connecticut or Quinnipiac.
The Red Raiders lead the series against Northern Colorado, 2-0.
