Tech Loses to Sand Diego at Barnes Collegiate Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis squad facing its sixth match in seven days ran out of gas as No. 48 San Diego won 6-1 at the Barnes Collegiate Invitational in San Diego.
San Diego started the match off winning the first doubles match in the No. 2 position. Stefanie Peana and Kerryn Potgieter fell to Tammy Kevey and Maja Sujica 8-1. The doubles point was clinched by San Diego in the No. 3 spot as Simone Templeton and Kyla Coleman, playing for the injured Natalie Leitch, was beat 8-4 by Justine Pearl and Maria Raygada.
The No. 44 duo of Samantha van der Drift and Kelsy Garland bounced back with an 8-6 victory over Juliette COupez and Samantha Mouly. Van der Drift and Garland are 15-6 on the season in doubles play.
The sixth match in seven days took its toll on the Lady Raiders (5-9, 0-3) as Utah five of the singles matches. Peana lost 6-0, 6-2 to Mlou Teeling in the No. 4 position. The No. 5 spot was a 6-2, 6-0 victory for Alexander Demidova over Potgieter.
Templeton fell 6-2, 6-2 to Kevey in the No. 3 singles match. Garland dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Samantha Mouly. Garland is 15-6 on the season and 9-5 in dual match play.
The No. 1 singles match had van der Drift losing to Coupez 6-2, 7-5. The final match was a positive for the Lady Raider as Coleman beat Raygada 10-8 in the No. 6 position.
Tech gets back to Big 12 play on Sunday as it plays Iowa State at 10 a.m. at the McLeod Center. The Lady Raiders then follow the match with one against Nebraska on Monday at 11 a.m.
