NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma's Andrew Doyle tossed eight shutout innings before handing things over to Jarrett Semler who finished the job as the No. 11 Sooners blanked Texas Tech 6-0 on Friday night in front of 1,220 fans at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
The loss drops Texas Tech to 15-21 overall and to 6-7 in Big 12 Conference action while Oklahoma improves to 27-7 and to 7-3 in the league.
Oklahoma scored the first of its six unanswered runs in the bottom half of the second inning when third baseman Garrett Buechele drove home J.T. Wise with a one-out single. Wise led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Cameron Seitzer. The hit by Buechele was the first of four on the evening as he led the Sooner offensive attack by going 4-for-4 with two RBIs.
The Sooners built a 3-0 with two runs in the bottom half of the third. OU shortstop Bryan Hernandez drove in the first run with an RBI single and first baseman Aaron Baker drove in the second with an RBI double to left.
Oklahoma scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh to take a 6-0 lead.
Doyle (5-2) earned the win for Oklahoma as he scattered six hits over eight shutout innings while issuing three walks and struckout four. Brian Cloud (2-3) was charged with the loss for Tech as he surrendered five runs on nine hits and three walks.
Texas Tech and Oklahoma will complete this three-game series on Saturday afternoon as the two teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
