Tech Golf Lands Eight on Academic All-ig 12

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's and women's golf teams each had four student-athletes named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team announced today by the conference.
The Red Raiders four selection were led by seniors Garrett Merrell (finance) and Santiago Rivas (economics) and sophomores Nils Floren (international business) and Chris Ward (general business). It is the third selection as Academic All-Big 12 for Merrell and first time for Rivas, Floren and Ward.
The Lady Raiders four selections include seniors Brynn Anderson (international business), Megan Dowdy (exercise sports science), Ulrika Van Niekerk (environmental engineering) and sophomore Jackie Smith (arts & science). It is Dowdy's third selection and van Niekerk's second as Academic All-Big 12. Anderson and Smith were both named for the first time in their careers.
The Lady Raiders host the 2009 Big 12 Women's Golf Championship this Fri.- Sun., at The Rawls Course with tee times starting at 8 a.m. The Red Raiders next stop will be in Hutchison, Kan., to play in the Big 12 Men's Golf Championship at Prairie Dunes Country Club on April 27-29.
