Texas Tech Edges San Diego State, 4-3

LUBBOCK, Texas - After winning the doubles point, the No. 39 Texas Tech men's tennis team claimed three singles matches to defeat No. 42 San Diego State, 4-3, on Saturday in Las Vegas at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on the campus of UNLV.
"This was a great team win for us," said head coach Tim Siegel. "San Diego State is a top 50 team and it was a great win to help us prepare for the tough competition the rest of the season."
The match started off with doubles action as the Red Raiders (2-0) won at the No. 1 and 2 positions to claim the doubles point and go up 1-0. Nineteenth-ranked Raony Carvalho and Rafael Garcia defeated Achim Ceban and Juan Gomez, 8-4, at No. 1. Tech's 35th-ranked duo and No. 2 tandem of Gonzalo Escobar and Andre Stabile beat Giovanni Vaglietti and Luis Rattenhuber, 8-3. The No. 3 team of Vitor Manzini and Raphael Pfister fell to Andre Feliz and Tim Schulz van Endert, 8-7.
After winning the doubles point, Tech was victorious in straight sets in three singles matches - No. 1, 2 and 5, to earn the 4-3 victory. Winning their singles matches for the Red Raiders were No. 25 Carvalho, as he was victorious over Ceban, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1. No. 40 Escobar won against Vaglietti, 7-5, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot, while Manzini defeated Jakob Kowalski, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 5.
