LUBBOCK, Texas - After Monday's first two rounds of the Lady Northern Invitational, the Texas Tech women's golf team sits in fourth place overall following a 4-over 292 opening round and a 12-over 300 second round.
Playing at the Lake Shore Country Club in Glencoe, Ill., the Lady Raiders began the day as the tournament's top squad, leading the field over the first several holes before defending national champion Purdue overtook the competition.
"We played well and got off to a good start," Tech head coach JoJo Robertson said. "We struggled a little in the middle but fought back and made some birdies coming in. I think we are in a good position tomorrow to shoot a low score and see what happens."
Tech ended the day 16-over overall and six strokes behind third-place Northwestern. Purdue leads the tournament at 4-under-par, while Ohio State trails eight strokes behind at 4-over. The Lady Raiders lead fifth-place Indiana by three strokes entering Tuesday's final round.
Gabby Dominguez led the Lady Raiders early in the tournament as the sophomore shot a 2-under 70 opening round that was followed by a 4-over 76 performance, putting the sophomore into a tie for 10th overall.
Deborah DeVilla wrapped the first day in a tie for 18th following an even-par 72 first round and a 4-over 76 second round. Kim Kaufman and Beverly Mendoza trail DeVilla by a stroke at 5-over-par and in a tie for 22nd overall.
Tech's two remaining players, Alex Gibson and Hannah Arnold, both finished the day 18-over. Arnold is playing as Tech's only individual entry.
The Lady Raiders return to the course in the second-to-last pairing Tuesday morning, joining Indiana and sixth-place Iowa State for a 7:39 tee time. Fans can keep up to date with the action through the live stats application at www.golfstat.com.
