LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas A&M limited Texas Tech's opportunities and had two players with double-digit kills as the Aggies swept the Red Raiders, 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-11), Wednesday evening at the United Spirit Arena.
Tech, in its first match under interim head coach Beth Falls, was even with the Aggies for most of the first two sets before A&M prevailed in the end. The Aggies committed only one attacking error in the final set en route to closing the match behind a .593 hitting percentage.
Backed by Amanda Dowdy's four kills and no errors in the second set, Tech pulled to a tie at 21 late in the frame in what could have been a momentum boost for the Red Raiders entering the intermission. A&M responded with four-straight points to end Tech's chances, however.
Texas A&M finished with a .326 hitting percentage in the match, while holding Tech to only a .119 percentage. The Aggies had two players with double-digit kills in Kelsey Black and Chelsea Ringel who both recorded 11, matching Dowdy for the match high.
Besides Dowdy, Tech received three kills each from Alexxa Roberts, Barbara Conceicao, and Miara Cave with Conceicao also adding a match-high four blocks. Setter Karlyn Meyers finished with 22 assists, while adding a kill and two blocks. Jackie Vincent led the Tech defense with eight digs.
Tech played in front of 921 fans, its second-largest attendance of the season, as numerous student organizations gathered for the annual Halloween Fright Night.
The loss drops Tech to 3-18 on the year and 1-11 in Big 12 play as it looks to rebound at Kansas this weekend. A&M pulled to 11-11 overall and 5-7 in Big 12 play.
Tech and Kansas battle at 6:30 p.m. Saturday evening in Lawrence. The Red Raiders defeated the Jayhawks, 3-2, earlier this season in Lubbock.
