LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's golf team continues its fall season this week, traveling to the Windy City Collegiate, held at the historic Northmoor Country Club in Highland Park, Ill.
Facing a tough field that consists of eight schools who qualified for an NCAA Regional berth a year ago, including defending national champion Purdue, the Lady Raiders will play 36 holes on Monday and conclude the tournament with a final 18 holes on Tuesday.
Joining Tech and Purdue in the field are East Carolina, Iowa State, Northwestern, TCU, New Mexico, San Diego State, UCF, UNC-Greensboro, and UNC-Wilmington. TCU, New Mexico, and San Diego State all advanced to the NCAA Championships last year before falling to the Boilermakers.
Tech has had a couple weeks off since its season-opening 13th-place finish at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic. Kim Kaufman finished a career-high fourth in the tournament following an opening-round 5-under 67 that put the sophomore in the lead after one round.
Head coach JoJo Robertson will be going with an experienced lineup with Kaufman, Beverly Mendoza, Gabby Dominguez, Deborah DeVilla, and Paloma Martinez making the trip. Besides the freshman Martinez, Tech's other four players were members of last season's squad that advanced to the NCAA East Regional.
The Northmoor Country Club was founded in 1918 and was designed by acclaimed course architect Donald Ross. Northwestern is the host team of the tournament.
