LUBBOCK, TX - Red Raider Vitor Manzini's goal of moving through the prequalifying rounds to qualifying singles to Main Draw singles came to an end on Tuesday with his loss to N.C. State's Dominic Hodgson, 6-4, 7-6.
A Prequalifying Singles entry, Manzini won each of his four earlier matches to gain a spot in Qualifying Singles, and he won Monday's match to advance to the second round of qualifying singles by defeating his South Florida opponent, Wael Kilani, 6-2, 6-1.
"This was a great singles tournament for Vitor. He fought hard in six matches and came away with five wins," declared coach Tim Siegel.
The Red Raiders start Qualifying Doubles play on Tuesday afternoon with two entries in the field of 64. Raony Carvalho and Vitor Manzini take on Cal Poly's Jordan Bridge and Brian McPhee at 1:00 p.m. The second Red Raider doubles entry, Gonzalo Escobar and Rafael Garcia, begin play at 3:30 p.m. against San Diego's Dean Jackson and Patrick Pohlmann.
In Qualifying Doubles, teams must win three rounds to advance to Main Draw.
The University of Tulsa hosts the tournament for the fourth-straight year and for the sixth year overall. The event takes place at Case Tennis Center on the University of Tulsa campus.
