LUBBOCK, TX - The Red Raiders seek their first win away from home tonight as they take on the Gaels of Saint Mary's (CA) at 7:30 p.m. in Round 3 of the South Padre Island Tournament.
Fox College Sports will provide complete coverage of the game with Kevin Eschenfelder calling the play-by-play and Reid Gettys adding the game analysis. In the Lubbock area the game will air on Suddenlink channel 510. AT&T U-verse will provide game coverage on channel 648.
Tonight's game against the Gaels is Round 3 of the South Padre Invitational Tournament. BYU takes on South Florida in a 5:00 p.m. game with the Red Raiders following at 7:30 p.m. The winners of these two contests play for the tournament championship on Saturday evening.
The Gaels of Moraga, California, were second in the West Coast Conference last year at 11-3. Saint Mary's tied a school record for wins posting their second consecutive 28-win season in 2009-10 season and finished the season with a 28-6 record after falling to Baylor in the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament.
After five games, Saint Mary's has averaged 94.2 points per game while allowing their opponents 57.2 points per game. The Gaels have five players averaging double figures for the season. Mickey McConnell leads his squad with 14.2 points per contest. Clint Steindl follows with 13.0 points per contest. Rob Jones adds 12.2 points per outing. Tim Williams is Saint Mary's leading rebounder with 8.2 rebounds per game, and he is fourth in scoring with 12.0 points per game. Matthew Dellavedova is fifth in scoring with 11.8 per game.
Texas Tech is 4-1 on the season and served as a regional host for two rounds of the SPI Tournament. In Round 1, they defeated Liberty University, 79-71, and then downed Georgia Southern in their most recent game, 103-79.
Texas Tech has five players averaging double figures for the season. David Tairu tops the squad with 14.2 points per game. John Roberson has averaged 13.0 points in his opening five games. Robert Lewandowski adds 12.2 points per game. Brad Reese drops in 12.0 points per game, and Mike Singletary follows with 10.2 points per contest.
Mark Finkner will call the courtside action against the Gaels along with analyst and former Red Raider, Andy Ellis, on the Texas Tech Sports Network flagship radio station Double T 104.3.
