LUBBOCK, Texas - Although the Texas Tech baseball team has wrapped up its fall season, Texas Tech Athletics Communications will continue taking an inside look into the Tech program with Red Raider Profiles on each player.
Trey Kensing (C - 6-0, 190 - R/R -Fr./HS - Arlington, Texas/Martin)
The Red Raiders have two returning catchers and two newcomers behind the plate this season, one of the new backstops for Tech is freshman Trey Kensing, who was a two-year letterwinner at Arlington Martin High School.
Kensing batted .439 with two homers and 27 RBI during his senior season. He helped lead Arlington Martin to a 27-12 overall record during his final prep season.
Kensing received honors his final two high school seasons, earning honorable mention all-district as a junior and receiving first team all-district honors as a senior.
During the summer of 2009, Kensing joined the USA Baseball Junior Olympic squad that traveled to Italy to play a portion of its schedule.
"Trey has done a good job for us," head coach Dan Spencer said. "He has spent most of his time catching for us in the bullpen - and that is what he will do for us primarily. He is a great kid and a hard worker. He is exactly what you need in that role. He is a very good team guy."
In addition, Kensing's father, Tracy, played football for the Red Raiders from 1978-80, while earning the J.T. King Award (Team's Most Improved Player) during the 1980 season.
