LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech moved up a notch in the final round and secured a third-place finish at the UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev. Freshman Gabby Dominguez carded the best tournament of her short collegiate career, leading the team with her first top five finish.
Tech entered the final round in fourth place, but the Lady Raiders' 298 was the fourth-lowest score of the round, which was enough to finish two strokes ahead of fourth-place Baylor. Tournament-host UNLV won the event by 12 strokes over Texas, which finished second, and eight stroke ahead of Tech.
Dominguez opened the tournament with a 2-over 74, but bounced back to go even with a 2-under 70 in the second round. She carried the momentum over into the final round with an even-par 72. The tie for fourth is a career best for the freshman, besting a seventh-place showing in her first collegiate outing in the fall.
Beverly Mendoza tied in 14th place with a 5-over 221, including a 74 in the final round. Rosalyn Kim checked in three strokes back with a 224 and tied in 23rd place. Alex Gibson and Kimberly Kaufman tied in 30th and 53rd places, respectively, with final tallies of 226 and 230.
Following UNLV, Texas, Texas Tech and Baylor, was Missouri in fifth place. Campbell University and Ball State tied in sixth place, while Nebraska, Idaho and Tulsa were eighth through 10th. BYU, Wisconsin, Portland State, Texas State and Washington State were the next five, and New Mexico State, Oregon State and Wyoming finished 16th through 18th.
