Lady Raiders Top No. 56 Cowgirls, 5-1

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Lady Raiders won their first conference match of the season with their 5-1 win over the No. 56 Cowgirls of Oklahoma State on Sunday at the McLeod Tennis Center.
Due to weather considerations, the match was originally scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m., but the Lady Raiders took on the Cowgirls at Noon.
Sunday's competition began with singles play.
Texas Tech's Natalie Leitch gave the Lady Raiders their first point in the match with her 6-2, 6-3, win at No. 2 singles over Sasha Belova.
Oklahoma State won the next point as Nataliya Shatkovskaya downed Elizabeth Ullathorne at No.3 singles, 7-5, 7-5. It would be OSU's only point in the match.
Freshman Caroline Starck put Texas Tech in the lead with her victory over Malika Rose at the fifth singles position, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Lady Raider Sandra Dynka extended Texas Tech's lead in the match to 3-1 with her 6-2, 7-5, win over Alisa Buslaieva at the top singles spot, 6-2, 7-5.
Stefanie Peana, playing her first singles match of the season, guaranteed the Lady Raider match victory as she defeated Alex Cristello at No. 6 singles, 7-5, 5-7, 6-2.
Moments later, veteran Kelsy Garland gave Texas Tech another point in the match as she closed out Sarah Meghoufel, 7-6 (7-3), 7-5.
The doubles matches were not played.
The Lady Raiders are on the road for their next conference match as they take on the Texas Longhorns at 1 p.m. on Friday in Austin.
Texas Tech returns to the McLeod Tennis Center on Sunday, March 28, in a 1 p.m. match against Texas A&M.
