Carvalho Named Big 12 Player of the Week

LUBBOCK, Texas - The 15th-ranked player in the country and Texas Tech's No. 1 singles player, Raony Carvalho, was named the Big 12 Men's Tennis Player of the Week by the conference office for his performances the week of March 15-21.
The Brazilia, Brazil, native went 3-1 in singles last week en route to being named the Most Valuable Player of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic as he led the Red Raiders to the tournament title. His win over Oklahoma's No. 20 Andrei Daescu clinched the championship match, which allowed Texas Tech to win 4-3. He also defeated Notre Dame's 27th-ranked Casey Watt in straight sets. The Red Raiders posted a 4-0 record at the tournament.
On the year, Carvalho is 14-2 this spring at No. 1 singles and has an 8-3 doubles record with Rafael Garcia at No. 1 doubles. The duo is currently ranked 18th in the country as well.
The Red Raiders climbed to No. 13 in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings and will host two matches on Sat., March 27 - UTSA at 9 a.m., and New Mexico at 3:30 p.m. at the McLeod Tennis Center.
