- Texas Tech now stands at 12-12 on the season and 2-2 in Big 12 Conference play.
- Texas Tech is now riding a four-game win streak dating back to a 13-7 win at No. 23 Texas A&M on Sunday.
- Tonight's game against Texas marked the 132nd meeting between the Red Raiders and the Longhorns. The series is the fourth most played in school history and Texas now holds a 97-35 all-time lead. In games played in Lubbock, Texas holds 43-19 advantage.
- Tonight's win over No. 8 Texas gives the Red Raiders five consecutive Friday night home wins in the Big 12 Conference dating back to last season. In 2009, the Red Raiders won all four Big 12 home series openers.
- Tonight's win also marked Tech's first in a series opener against the Longhorns since taking a 10-5 win on March 8, 2002. The Red Raiders went on to win that series 2-1 and it marked the last time that Tech took a three-game series from Texas.
- Tonight's win over the Longhorns marked a first by Texas Tech in any sport this season. Coming into tonight, Tech was 0-7-1 against the Longhorns in football, men's and women's basketball, volleyball and soccer. The women's soccer team managed a 2-2 tie against Texas back in the fall in Austin.
- After five tries, Texas Tech got its first win over a Top 10 team. Tech was 0-5 in four games against No. 7 TCU and one against No. 9 Rice coming into tonight. The last time Tech defeated a team ranked in the top 10 was a 12-6 decision at No. 10 Kansas State on May 9, 2009.
- Tonight's attendance of 3,824 was a season high.
- Freshman second baseman Jamodrick McGruder belted his second home run of the season in the bottom half of the second. He has now hit safely nine of the last 10 games.
- In each of its last two games, the Tech offense has scored season-high runs against both Texas and Texas A&M. Last Sunday, the Red Raiders put up 13 runs in a 13-7 win over the Aggies and then plated 12 against the Longhorns tonight. Coming into the game, Texas' previous high in runs allowed was six against New Mexico on Feb. 20.
- Freshman first baseman Barrett Barnes now leads the team with four home runs and his season RBI total grew to 25.
