COLUMBIA, Mo. - Texas Tech (31-12) suffered a few costly miscues and couldn't recover as No. 11 Missouri (32-8) beat the Red Raiders 5-2 in the Big 12 series finale for the two teams.
Tech put runs across in the first and second, but the Tigers responded with one in the first and four in the third (three unearned) to grab control of the game. Tech starter Ashley Brokeshoulder gave way ahead in the top of the third to Karli Merlich and then came back by virtue of the re-entry rule to finish the frame after Merlich struggled with the final out of the third. After a pair of singles, a stolen base and a run-scoring fly ball, Tech committed an error extending the inning and the Tigers tagged Merlich with a 3-run blast. Ashly Jacobs come on to relieve and pitched a hitless fifth and sixth to highlight the effort from the circle. Merlich took the loss and moves to 9-2 on the season.
For Tech's offense, Stephanie Drewry hit her first career home run in the top of the second and Mikey Kenney doubled in the first and came around to score on an errant play by Mizzou on a ball hit by Emily Bledsoe. McKenzie Clemmons, Logan Hall and Ashley Hamada each picked up hits as Tech left five runners on for the afternoon.
Tech next will pit its 3-8 Big 12 record against the conference's best when it hosts No. 9 Oklahoma State (39-7, 9-0) for a double header on Thursday, April 22, beginning at 5 p.m.
Fans, it would be really great if you'd come out and cheer like mad with your Guns Up for the Red Raiders and all.
